THE EDITOR, Sir:
THIS IS a cry for help. The letter following was written by my 11-year-old daughter who is extremely traumatised. She is in the process of writing to the Prime Minister, Governor-General, Opposition Leader and others:
She writes: You may be wondering I have not put in my address. I just don't feel comfortable giving you my address. This letter is about the crime problems in Jamaica. I notice that one of the reasons why there is a lot of crime in Jamaica is because a large sum of the population is unemployed. As a result the only way to get money is by robbing and killing business operators.
Another thing that bothers me is the murder of innocent people, especially children. It is a disgrace. Imagine, attacking a bus with children. I really want to ask this question, do you really care about this? If you did, crime and violence wouldn't have to be a big problem.
One way I think how you can stop the crime problem is to reintroduce capital punishment. It has reached and passed boiling point. Please do something about it. Do if for your own family, do it for Jamaica.
I am, etc.,
