Primary school, community involvement
published: Tuesday | May 24, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

TEACHERS' DAY 2005 has seen an event which has demarcated a phenomenal change in the relationship between our school, Mt. Providence All-Age School, and the community, and we hope that this is the event which will serve as the catalyst to revolutionise the support of community members forever.

On May 4, the parent-teacher association created history when they single-handedly planned, prepared and presented the educators with a treat that was not only surprising and overwhelming, but superbly elegant.

Newly-elected president, Rosemarie Palmer, and her team had the sumptuous meal prepared and smartly-clad men escorted the females and a female for the single male on staff. The slow march bred a feeling of warmth and love between community members and staff that we long awaited and the moment was being captured on camera. We were seated around a well-spread and delicately-decorated table. The waitresses were young members of the community, neatly dressed in black and white. The audience showed a 'just wanting to be there attitude' that could not be resisted. We were entertained by them and we were moved to tears.

Thanks to all the parents who have willingly given the president their support to pull off such an unprecedented event; and thanks to the master of ceremonies, Wilberforce Robinson, and our very own school cook, Mrs. Beverly Edwards-Campbell.

A family which prays together stays together, therefore, the community which works together will succeed together.

I am, etc,

JEAN PENNANT
