Chinese Benevolent Assoc stands against crime
published: Wednesday | May 25, 2005

The following statement was issued by the Chinese Benevolent Association yesterday.

THE CHINESE Benevolent Association applauds the initiatives being proposed by the private sector. We urge our members to support and participate in the activities being planned, including the rally at the Emancipation Park and other gatherings throughout the island today.

For too long we have quietly bemoaned the escalating murder rate. We have been touched by the loss of relatives and friends at the hands of criminals and felt the sense of hopelessness that pervades our society.

VOICELESS MAJORITY

We have become numbed by the frequent murder of our children, fellow citizens and police officers and the total disregard for law and order. As a result of our inertia, we have assumed the role of the voiceless majority.

We welcome this opportunity for the citizens of Jamaica to rise up and be counted. Can we set aside our differences and view this as our chance to come together as Jamaicans to take ownership of our country? To quote Mahatma Gandhi You may never know what results come of your action but, if you do nothing, there will be no result. So today, let us STAND UP FOR JAMAICA!
