MANY LABOUR Day projects were undertaken by hundreds of volunteers in St. Ann on Monday. The parish project was the flood-ravaged Cave Valley area where several blocked drains were cleaned.
Member of Parliament Ernest Smith and councillor for the area Winston Brown, along with Sergeant of Police, Ray Palmer, led the large turn out of residents and members of interest groups who volunteered their service to ensure the parish project was a success.
Elsewhere in the parish, the Liberty Hill All-Age School in Dumbarton was given a well-needed face-lift, as well as improvements to bathrooms by members of staff of Hedonism III Resort. Also taking part in that project was Custos of St. Ann, Radcliffe Walters, who did some painting while offering words of encouragement to the volunteers.
In Priory, councillor for the area, Dalas Dickinson, and a work team focussed on cleaning drains, including two which were blocked by heavy rainfall in the area on Saturday.
In the nearby Seville Heights community, members of staff of Breezes Runaway Bay Resort led by hotel manager Errol Hall used the occasion to start the construction of a house for a fellow member of staff whose house was badly damaged by Hurricane Ivan, last year. The staff member Neil Omphroy said he was grateful to his co-workers for helping to restore his life.
