Talbert, Thomas win big
published: Wednesday | May 25, 2005

WAINARD TALBERT and Tacius Golding's Tamika Thomas ran away with the inaugural Three Finger Jack 4K race in St. Thomas on Monday.

Talbert finished the hilly course in 13 minutes and 40 seconds to comfortably beat Jamalco's Jason Saunders (14:03).

Talbert said the first part of the race was difficult because it was hilly.

However, he said: "When I turned at the halfway mark, it was easy coming back."

"There were some challenges from Saunders and JDF's Phillip Edwards, but I just maintained my form," Talbert said.

Edwards, who defeated Talbert at the Burger King 10K, was third in 14:21, ahead of Jason Ellison of G.C. Foster (14:36) and Lamar Edwards picked up fifth in 14:50.

In the female's section, Thomas crossed the finish line in 17 minutes and 45 seconds to beat Marica James (18:44).

Red Hill All Age schools girls dominated the minor places as Tiffanie Richards (19:03), Renee Taylor (19:31) and Yanique Brown (19.37) finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Both winners walked away with $12,000 each. The runners-up collected $9,000, third $7,000, fourth $5,000 and fifth $3,000.

In the Masters section, Michael Alexander of Ebony beat Jamdammers' Alan Beckford and Oral Anderson, also of Ebony for the $5,000 winner's prize.

Meanwhile, Yasmin Fenton of Jamdammers finished ahead of her clubmate Gina Harrison and Cecile Bardato.

Both Masters winners picked up $5,000 while second and third got $3,000 and $2,000 respectively.

There were also prizes for the community runners.

Rayon Edwards, who finished 13th overall, topped this section for the male prize. He finished ahead of Dwayne James and Owen Muir.

In the female section, Alexion Wilson won over Jody-Ann Williams and Ronisha Davis.
