MARLEY

The following article was taken from The Gleaner-owned The Voice, Britain's best Black newspaper. It was published on the website, www-voice-online.net/ of May 25, 2005.

RESEARCH FOR the RAC Foundation has found that the best song to listen to whilst driving is Bob Marley's 'Three Little Birds'.

According to the independent motoring research body, reggae and old 60s tracks make more people 'smile more per hour'.

Music like rap and rock as well as sad songs, are apparently the least likely to make us smile. It was also found that the worst song to drive to is 'Stan' by Eminem.

Conrad King, the Foundation's consultant psychologist said: "A smile is a perfect non-verbal appeasement gesture that one motorist can give to another when they have made a mistake. Hand gestures can be misinterpreted but a smile is always a smile.

"As well as a way of calming other motorists down, when we smile we release endorphins which are the body's naturally produced opiate into our system, giving a feeling of happiness."
