TITLE FAVOURITES Portmore United will tackle Waterhouse FC in one of two Wray and Nephew National Premier League games at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium at 6:00 this evening while Invaders host Reno at the Elliston Wakeland Centre at 3:30 p.m.
High-riding Portmore, fresh from their 3-1 thumping of Harbour View in the Red Stripe Champions Cup final on Sunday, will be hoping to add another big scalp as the semi-final protagonists take shape.
MENTAL EDGE
Portmore already have the psychological advantage over Tivoli Gardens and Harbour View and will want to reconfirm their superiority over Waterhouse, a team they beat in the second end-of-round final.
So, as the June 8 semi-finals draw near, Portmore can boast of having one up on the three other semi-finalists.
But Waterhouse, beaten finalists in the two end-of-round finals, can brag that they are the most consistent team and today's clash might well be a dress rehearsal for one of the semi-finals.
Waterhouse lie fourth on 60 points but have a game in hand against Wadadah and if they win today, could be well on their way to earning the $1 million bonus for the team ending with the most points.
IMPRESSIVE WIN
Waterhouse could very well win this one as Portmore might still be celebrating Sunday's knockout success, but the way in which Portmore United put away Harbour View would have left a lot of teams shaking in their boots.
Captain Kevin Deerr, Wolry Wolfe, Kemeel Wolfe, Omar Daley, Jason Morrison, Chris Dawes, Anthony Modeste, Tyrone Sawyers and national goalkeeper Shawn Sawyers will be hard to beat.
In the other encounter, Invaders take on Reno in what is a crucial match for both teams in the relegation zone. If Reno win they would almost be sure of beating off Arlington and Invaders to stay in the Premier League.
Reno have 25 points with a game in hand against Village, are third from bottom and lead Arlington by six points. They are three more points ahead of Invaders who have secured one of the two relegation spots.
Invaders boast a win over Harbour View last week and a win today would certainly make the relegation battle interesting.
