Student receives inaugural scholarship
published: Friday | May 27, 2005

NIURKA WALLACE is the first recipient of the Rev. E.J. Caolsingh Memorial Scholarship.

The late Rev. Caolsingh served the Stirling United Church of Grange Hill in Westmoreland for 43 years before retiring in 1976. He died in 1996 at the age of 86. The scholarship, tenable for five years, will be awarded every five years to a member of the United Church (formerly Presbyterian) in the parish.

Niurka, who is 12 years old, is a past student of the Savanna-la-Mar Primary School. She now attends Ardenne High School in St. Andrew. She received her cheque from Rev. Caolsingh's widow Myrtle at a presentation service at the church.

Rev. Caolsingh was trained at the then Woodlands Theological College in Manchester.
