THE COMMUNITY of Arnett Gardens welcomed housing champions in their midst after Thursday's Western Union Division 'B' final.
Arnett Gardens, who should have been playing in the Super League after winning the 'B' League last season, were set back by losing good players and had to be content with again plying their trade in the Intermediate League.
That, however, set up the rare possibility of a double, which was achieved under extreme pressure as they were crowned Western Union Division 'B' champions for the second year running.
Playing against the Ravens, Arnett won 40-34 and displayed the kind of championship spirit that the community had been looking to from its premier league football team.
"We stuck to the task. We were depending on our attacking area to do the job and as you can see they did it. This really means a lot. In Arnett there is a crisis and I think the community will welcome this win and welcome the team as their daughters," said their coach, Delroy "Nyah" Garrison.
The victory meant that the girls walked home with $40,000, while Ravens, who made a good showing against the league favourites, put $28,000 into their coffers.
Ebony Strikers 'A', who had defeated Alexander Strikers 36-20 in the battle for third, grabbed $17,000, while their opponents were made to settle for $14,000.
National player and Arnett goal attack, Kadian Mendez, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the championships for her performance.
