Christians unite
published: Sunday | May 29, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE MAY Pen Ministers Fraternal expresses its deep concern in light of the very serious crime situation in the nation.

This has led to the brutal slaying of persons across the parish of Clarendon. The most recent incident has been the slaying of businessman Maurice Azan and his stepson Lloyd Phang.

The church continues to pray for God's intervention. Our pastors are available to counsel with those most affected and to offer whatever help we can in this hour of crisis. We would like to make a strong pastoral appeal to the perpetrators, those who are being used, and those who are the users, to desist from activities which destroy our nation and lead to increasing distress and ultimately to your own demise.

We call on all Christians and all persons of good will to unite, so that together as a people we can rid our country of this scourge. We trust that our leaders and all those with responsibility for the security of the nation will act decisively, deliberately and justly to bring a level of containment to the crisis.

I am, etc.,

ANTHONY WALLACE

Chairman,

May Pen Ministers Fraternal
