WEDDING OF THE WEEK - And the two became one
published: Monday | May 30, 2005

Keisha Shakespeare, Freelance Writer

THEY WORKED and studied together for two years before they decided to date. Eight years later they decided it was time to get married.

Susan Gordon and Oliver Daley tied the knot on April 30, 2005 at St. Luke's Church in Cross Roads in Kingston. Officiating minister was Archdeacon Alvin E. Stone. Gordon, 32, is a sub-editor at the Gleaner Company in Kingston, while Daley, 31, is a sales representative at Associated Industries in Grand Cayman.

The couple met in 1993 at Auto Motives Spares in Kingston where they both worked. Gordon was a receptionist and Daley was a sales representative. Both were very early for work each morning and as a result they would 'hang out'.

ATE LUNCH TOGETHER

" When we arrived at work we would sit and chat until it was time to begin work. We also used to eat lunch together. However, we were just friends," said Gordon.

The couple also attended the same evening class so they would study together too. " At the time he was living in Westminster in Portmore, St. Catherine while I lived in Waltam Park in Kingston. We use to meet at Devon House to study every Sunday evening," said Gordon.

"As we got to know each other I became attracted to him because he was (and still is) selfless, considerate and kind. He would deprive himself that another could have." Daley also was very attracted to Gordon during this period.

" Susan was (and still is) an intelligent woman and she was focused so I became very attracted to her. Throughout our relationship what stands out the most is that there is never a dull moment. Sometimes she would turn on the music then start to dance and then invite me to join her. This keeps the relationship up and going," said Daley.

The couple's flame remained for eight years after they started dating in 1995 until Daley decided to pop the question on October 18, 2003.

THAT GIFT BOX

"I took her to dinner at an upscale restaurant in Portmore. After we ate the main course I put a gift box on top of her plate. She asked what it was. I just told her to open it. When she did, she saw the ring and I asked her to marry me. She didn't say anything she just hugged and squeezed me. I asked her to say something and she softly said yes.

The couple got married in shades of burgundy and ivory in a morning wedding, then set out for their honeymoon at Grand Lido Braco in Trelawny.
