Tivoli hit Reno for six
published: Monday | May 30, 2005

Howard Walker, Satff Reporter

NICHOLAS

TWO GOALS by Kemar Mills kept Tivoli Gardens in the hunt for the million-dollar bonus, with an emphatic 6-2 mauling of Reno in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League game yesterday at the Edward Seaga Stadium.

Markino Gillings opened the floodgates in the 17th minute from close range and a defender's goal in the 39th doubled the score.

Martin Williams pulled one back for the Westmoreland based-Reno in the 46th minute, before the lanky Mills added his name to the scoresheet in the 49th and 56th minutes.

Kevon Grant made it 4-2 for Reno in the 63rd minute, but two goals in two minutes from Christopher Nicholas in the 64th and Marvin Morgan in the 65th put paid to any thought Reno harboured of getting back in the game.

Tivoli, the defending champions, are now second on 64 points, the same as Waterhouse but with a better goal difference, and one point above Portmore United which lost at home yesterday.

INTERESTINGLY POISED

With Portmore and Waterhouse dropping valubale points, the race for the million-dollar bonus for the team with the most points is interestingly poised with two rounds to go.

However, Waterhouse have a game in hand against Wadadah that could be crucial in the final run-in.

Desmond Francis, assistant coach of Tivoli, was satisfied with the result garnered by his makeshift team that showed their depth and stated:

"We have injuries and suspensions and these players will be coming back for the next game.

"You will see a stronger Tivoli team for the semi-final round," he added.

Meanwhile, losing coach, Carl Palmer, said his youthful team gave a very gutsy performance regardless of the score.

"If we did score our chances in the first half it would have been a different game.

"Our game plan was to frustrate them and score on the counter," he added.
