'Bogle's niece killed
published: Tuesday | May 31, 2005

A 14-YEAR-OLD niece of the late dancehall star, Gerald "Bogle" Levy, was stabbed to death yesterday by another teenager in Arnett Gardens, St. Andrew.

The dead girl has been identified as Samantha Erskine, who dropped out of Charlie Smith High School in January. It is alleged that a long-standing conflict between Erskine and a group of teenage girls had prevented her from attending school.

The police said she was killed shortly afternoon during a dispute with another 14-year-old girl at a section of the community known as Building Three.

According to the police, the two girls were involved in an argument which developed into a fight. A knife was used to stab Erskine who was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).

A report from the Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) said the Denham Town police are seeking a girl known only as "Reds".

The death of the teenager has pushed the number of persons killed since the start of the year to nearly 680. The police said 28 persons were murdered last week, while there were 35 reported cases of shooting, 36 robberies, 24 cases of felonious wounding and nine cases of sexual offences.

The CCN's weekly crime report said there were 29 cases of breaking and two reported cases of burglary. Within the one-week period 189 rounds of ammunition and 12 illegal firearms were seized. At least 93 persons were arrested and charged in connection with drug-related offences, fraud, arson and illegal possession of firearm.

WEAPONS USED IN THE 28 MURDERS REPORTED LAST WEEK.
