The Editor, Sir:
I PASS on a response to my recent column titled "Consumer out in left field".
Dear Mr Quill:
Reference is made to your article carried in The Gleaner of May 20, 2005.
Following the publication of that article there have been a number of queries from consumers directly to the Consumer Affairs Commission and indirectly through calls to the radio stations.
Let me thank you for your assistance in providing an additional conduit through which members of the public can be made more aware of the consumer protection legislation in Jamaica.
On the issue raised regarding Lemon Laws, the agency, through the Department of Research, Information and Communication, is aware of Lemon Laws and similar legislation in other jurisdictions. This knowledge is used in several ways for referencing, bench-marking and for incorporation where appropriate in our policy development activities.
Please accept our apologies that on the day(s) you called, the officer(s) with whom you spoke were unable to sufficiently provide you with the information you sought. We continue to deepen the expansion of consumer knowledge and awareness as the market space around us evolves, and look forward to your continued assistance in bringing issues of this nature to the Jamaican consumer.
Yours truly,
CONSUMER AFFAIRS COMMISSION
