SPANISH TOWN:
The March Pen Road community was abuzz with activities on Sunday at the inaugural Canal Splash. At about 4:30 pm, scores of residents from the top and bottom of March Pen Road were frolicking in the crystal water running in the canal. The festivities, including music and dancing, were held in an effort to unite members of the community from different political persuasions.
"We want this not only to be a show but also a testimony to other communities that March Pen Road is not only dwelling on the negatives of gun and violence," remarked John Nathan, a resident of the area.
Several other persons from the community told The Gleaner that war and crime in the area have been robbing them of their neighbourly duty to live in peace.
HOPEFUL RESIDENTS
"A full time now fi it stop because war nah put wi no weh. Look how wi a live inna unity now, and some of us are even related," said a young woman.
According to residents, the effort will be sustained and they are hoping that some of the major business players can come on board to assist the residents in making the event an annual one.
They hope that with the start of this peace process, assistance will come from outside to provide employment for idle youths.
