Badboybin ride lands Simpson before Stewards
published: Tuesday | May 31, 2005

SIMPSON

CHAMPION JOCKEY Trevor Simpson faces the Stewards of the Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) today to explain his riding of the favourite BADBOYBIN in the second race over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 14.

The race, which has opened up a can of worms, resulted in a huge upset, victory going to the 59-1 outsider LADY ISIS, ridden by two-time champion jockey Joe Buchanan.

Badly outpaced in last position for most of the way, LADY ISIS produced a devastating stretch run on the outside to win in a blanket finish from BOUND FOR GLORY, REGGAE RULES and DR. RSF.

The Richie Todd-trained BADBOYBIN finished a mere two lengths away sixth.

According to reports, immediately after the race the owner of BADBOYBIN was unhappy with the manner in which Simpson rode his horse and complained to the Stewards.

After viewing the patrol film of the race, the Stewards summoned Simpson to a hearing last week Tuesday, but due to the death of his father it was postponed until this morning at the Winchester Road offices of the JRC.

If Simpson fails to convince the Stewards that his riding of BADBOYBIN was above board, he could receive a lengthy suspension.

The maximum that can be imposed by the Stewards is 25 race days.

Simpson, champion jockey for the past three years, leads the current standings with 36 winners, 12 clear of closest rival Brian Harding.
