MINISTER OF Local Government, Community Development and Sport, Portia Simpson Miller, yesterday said that the final report on the operations of the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) should be in her hands next week.
"The contractor-general presented an interim report in April and the final report will be submitted to me next week," Mrs. Simpson Miller said during her contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives.
The Local Government Ministry had requested that the auditor-general and the
contractor-general investigate the operations of the NSWMA, after receiving reports of mismanagement and corruption.
After the allegations became
public, and in the wake of severe public outcry, the board of the NSWMA was asked to resign en bloc.
Permanent Secretary, Loraine Robinson, took over as head of the interim management team and, Mrs. Simpson Miller said yesterday, a new board will be named shortly.
