Congrats, Mr Heffes
published: Wednesday | June 1, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Sunday's newspaper carried an interview with Lawrence Heffes, a race horse owner and shareholder of New Blue Limited.

I write to commend Mr. Heffes. He is the first entrepreneur that I know who has come out with details regarding extortion.

After the PSOJ 'bawl out' in Emancipation Park I would have thought that following upon the exhortation of the President, Beverly Lopez, more of these interviews/confessions would have been published.

Alas and alack, this was not to be, except for the statement of the President of the Jamaica Race Horse Owners' Association.

It has long been my firm conviction that the business of owning a race horse attracts a certain personality and a tenacity of spirit that, if translated to the leadership of the different groups in our society, then and only then a great improvement would be seen.

Congratulations again to Lawrence Heffes who as a proud race horse owner leads the way that I hope others will follow. Unless the financing of terror groups by extortion is stopped then we will have ourselves to blame as we continue on this road to anarchy.

I am, etc.,

DR. PAUL WRIGHT
