Immaculate nip Hillel for second triumph
published: Thursday | June 2, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

IMMACULATE PREP notched their second major swim meet title of the season after a good performance at the Nestlé Prep and Primary Championships at the weekend.

Immaculate claimed victory in the combined standings by a mere six points with 366, just eclipsing the effort of Hillel Academy.

In the male standings, Hillel reigned supreme, scoring 233 points to outdo St. Peter and Paul's 175.

However, Hillel's fourth-place finish in the girls' standings, with 127 points, wasn't enough for them to surpass Immaculate.

In the girls' standings, Vaz Prep were second with 151 points while Wolmer's Prep claimed third with 135. Wolmer's had a good overall meet as they were also third in the combined team scores as they amassed 289 points. They were also third in the male standings with 154 points.

Individually, Hillel's Kendese Nangle was the star of the meet as she broke four records.

She equalled the championship record in the Girls 10 and under 200 metre Individual Medley in a time of 3:06.59.

In the Girls age 9-10 backstroke, she lowered the existing Championship record of 38.50 seconds and the national age group record of 36.84 to an impressive 35.99.

She also broke the 34.85 seconds National Age Group record in the 50- metre butterfly, setting a new mark of 34.27 seconds.

In the girls' age 9-10 50-metre freestyle, Nangle was again in fine form, lowering the 32.34 championship record to 31.78 seconds.

In total, 15 records were broken with Wolmer's Prep's 11-year-old Khristen Jones finding her way into the record books three times as well, breaking the 200-m individual medley, the 100-m freestyle and the 50-m freestyle during her performance.
