THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHEN P.J. asks the school children or the Minister of National Security asks citizens to help fight crime, what do they mean? Sometimes I wonder if these leaders think before they speak. Do they understand that every man wants to go to heaven but nobody wants to die? Do they understand what that means?

Picture this: I have gone abroad, worked some money and came back to my community. For just that mere fact, I am respected. I start contributing to the community football programme. I help send Miss Matty's children to school, a man wants to fix his house, I give him a money, I put on a treat for the children, Mass Joe died and Miss Jane want help fi bury him, I help out.

Mr. politician, the community now sees me as the 'Big Man', 'The Provider'. It pledges allegiance to me. That's how most of you rose to power. For people to desist from becoming subordinates for criminals, they need to be educated into a different kind of thinking.

As leaders, you need to lead by example. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Over the years, how many politicians who know who the criminals are have called names? Just by asking people to help fight crime will not change the situation; you need to lead from the front and people will follow.

My leaders want to go to heaven but none of them want to die, what say me!

I am, etc.,
