Arnett stomp on C Spring
published: Friday | June 3, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

ARNETT GARDENS continued to signal their intent for next season with a comprehensive 3-0 win over Constant Spring in the penultimate preliminary round game of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League last night.

The Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex was sparsely populated but the few diehard fans that were there witnessed a dangerous alliance between Jonathan Williams, who opened the scoring in the 38th minute, and Kwame Richardson, who was an integral part of Jermaine Benjamin's 45th-minute strike.

Arnett's third goal came from the boot of the promising Patrick Graham in the 54th.

Arnett's victory took them to 58 points, just three short of coach Michael Tulloch's goal of 61 this season.

"I think it's a good time to build for next season. We want to end on 61 points and we aimed to win the last four games and we've won three already," said Tulloch, who was pleased with the way the side's youngsters have been playing.

The win was also Arnett's third under their Under-21 player and now senior captain, Kevin Rose.

DO WELL AGAIN

"I think the coach has done well to bring in the youngsters. It should have happened a long time ago. I think I have been doing well for the team and next year we will focus and do well again," said Rose, who has not put a foot wrong since taking the skipper's arm band.

The game itself was not much to write home about, but two of the goals were well created while the other brilliantly finished.

Williams played a long diagonal ball from the half line to Richardson, who darted into the box and cut back the ball and found Williams, who had streaked into the area and only needed a side foot to beat Damion Benjamin, who was covering for his goalkeeper on the line.

The second was a good dribble from Richardson, who was given the ball while surrounded by three players. He left them for dead before playing an elegant pass between two more players down the line to Williams, whose cross was met by the chest of Jermaine Benjamin. His volley to finish at the near post was sublime.

The third goal came from a fumble, as Denzil Mitchell tripped on the ball in his half. Graham ran on to the loose ball and slammed a ferocious right-footer from just outside the penalty area that was earmarked for the back of the net the moment it left his boot.
