Jailbreak report ready
published: Tuesday | June 7, 2005

THE LONG-AWAITED report on the fatal attempted jailbreak at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre in Kingston could be made public today.

Minister of Education, Youth and Culture, Maxine Henry-Wilson, told journalists during yesterday's post-Cabinet press briefing at Jamaica House that Cabinet has received the report.

"The report was not discussed in full, although aspects of it were raised, but it will be released to the public when it is laid on the table of Parliament," Mrs. Henry-Wilson said.

The escape bid took place in March, after which Minister of National Security Dr. Peter Phillips demanded a report on the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Three inmates and a warder were killed during the attempted prison escape.

Yesterday, Mrs. Henry-Wilson said the Cabinet was hoping to have the report tabled today.
