Tendulkar to miss ODI's against Windies
published: Tuesday | June 7, 2005

DELHI, India, CMC:

INDIAN BATTING genius Sachin Tendulkar is expected to miss the three-nation One Day International tournament in Sri Lanka involving the West Indies after recently undergoing surgery on his troublesome elbow.

The 31-year old right hander returned to India yesterday after surgery in London last month and admitted he would need three months of rehabilitation work before he could play again.

This effectively puts him out of the triangular tournament which begins August 1 in Sri Lanka following the West Indies' two-Test series against the hosts.

"It (the recovery process) is progressing quite well and I will need 14 to 16 weeks to return to competitive cricket," Tendulkar was quoted as saying.

"I have been given a programme (by the doctors) to follow. I will go back to London to consult the doctor again."

Tendulkar's elbow injury, known as "tennis elbow", has kept him out of action for India in recent time as he missed three one-day tournaments, including the ICC Champions Trophy last year, and the first two Tests against Australia.

He last played in a Test back in March in the third match of the series against Pakistan.

Tendulkar has scored over 10 000 runs in Tests at an average of 57 while compiling a record 34 centuries. In ODIs, he has scored 13 000 runs at an average of 44 while racking up a phenomenal 38 centuries.
