THE JAMAICA Institute of Environmental Professionals (JIEP) yesterday announced plans for its second national conference on the environment, which will take place on June 15 and 16.
The five-year-old JIEP is a professional association for persons who work in the environmental field. Members include natural scientists, engineers, consultants, social scientists, lawyers, educators and economists.
President of the JIEP Peter Reeson explained that the bi-annual conference provides an ideal opportunity for everyone with an interest in environmental affairs to join together and share ideas on how to move forward.
The theme for this year's conference, which will be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel in New Kingston, is 'Sustainable Development: Myths and Realities'.
Conference manager Marcia Creary said this will be more than just an occasion for environmentalists to assemble for a chat. She said the conference organisers will be preparing a summary of the findings and recommendations arising from the two-day event, which will be sent to the relevant authorities and stakeholders.
