Portmore thrash Invaders
published: Wednesday | June 8, 2005

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

A FINE ALL-ROUND performance saw seven different Portmore United players account for their massive 7-0 victory over relegated Invaders in their final game of the Wray and Nephew National Premier League regular season at the Ferdie Neita Park yesterday.

The game never indicated much regarding the semi-final because Portmore used a largely Under-21- based team in which Roen Nelson (17th), Jason Morrison (45 plus), Rafei Wolfe (57th), Orane Miller (62nd), Steven Morrissey (65th), Bryan Bayliss (73rd) and Ryan Powell (86th) played their parts in wreaking havoc on the cellar dwellers.

The win means Portmore have jumped past Tivoli into third place and will now play Waterhouse when the semi-finals kick off on June 15. Portmore coach Paul Young, although avoiding playing against the league leaders thanks to the victory, said he didn't care who the side played in the semis.

"The results didn't matter. We came here and played the way we wanted to. We just rested some players to get them refreshed for the semi-finals. It doesn't matter, we'll play anybody," said Young.

Invaders' coach and founder Oliver Brown wasn't too perturbed about his team's relegation and thought his side played well but needed proper management.

"There needs to be rebuilding of the club. Over the season I think the players played favourably but the management structure was one of the main things that brought down the club.

"We need to rebuild at the club level and then we'll show better performances," he said.
