Credit rating

THE EDITOR, Sir:
FIRST I would like to thank Mr. Paulwell for increasing the cost of phone calls to Jamaica. I hope that the money goes to education and will not be diverted to some other 'Government purpose'.
Second, a note to Mr. Patterson and Mr. Davies. I have have been reading about the favourable credit rating that Jamaica has been receiving from the various agencies. Might I suggest that the Government float a bond and hire more police officers. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, one of the basic human needs is safety, which is only secondary to physiological needs (hunger, thirst). People are not able to satisfy needs on the top of the pyramid such as love and self-actualisation until these basic needs are met. Enough skylarking; this problem is not going to go away or solve itself.
Last, I saw a survey the other day which said that five of the six most profitable airlines in America were low-cost carriers. Just food for thought maybe someone can pass that on to Dr. Lawrence. Can you imagine what it would do for the country's economy if all the Jama-icans living in Miami were able to travel for $100 each way?
I am, etc.,
