CLASSES RESUMED on Tuesday at the Edith Dalton James High School in St. Andrew, following Monday's protest by students.
Paul McCallum, vice-principal for the junior shift, said the teachers reported for classes Tuesday, but not all the students were in attendance. He, however, said he anticipates a better turnout of students in the coming days.
On Monday, placard-bearing students protested against a recent spate of robberies involving a teacher and several students on the school grounds and in the community.
Last Wednesday, a teacher was held up by gunmen and robbed of her jewellery. They also took her keys and escaped in her motor car. The car was, however, later found.
DECISIONS TAKEN
A meeting was held with the school administration and representatives of the Ministry of Education on Monday.
Dorrett Campbell, director of communications at the Ministry of Education, said some of the decisions that would be taken involve employing two additional security guards and the construction of a perimeter wall.
Mr. McCallum noted that there would be a wave of fear pervading the school community, but the teachers are returning to work with a view that some of the concerns that were raised will be addressed.
