SEBA UNITED took another giant step towards returning to the National Premier League (NPL) with an unconvincing 1-0 win over Star Cosmos at the St. Mary Sports Complex yesterday.
Damion Williams' screamer from 35 metres in the first half carried MoBay-based Seba to their third win from as many games.
Seba now have nine points, four ahead of Boys' Town who clipped Los Perfectos 1-0 at Brooks Park in Mandeville. Los Perfectos remain on three points, ahead of Star Cosmos who are at the bottom with one point.
With only three return games left, Seba are a win away from Premier League promotion and coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis doesn't care how he gets the points.
"It was a ugly game but the win is good. When you travel away from home, the home team normally put pressure on you. We got the goal we needed and won the game," said Davis.
KEEPING FOCUS
But with nine points under his belt and qualification looking certain, Davis says he just wants to keep his players focussed.
"I just want to keep this team together because I don't want them to get complacent. We still have work to do because we are not there yet," Davis said.
Meanwhile, a disappointed Donovan Duckie, coach of Star Cosmos, once again rued missed chances by his team.
"A missed penalty, four clear missed chances ... if you wanted to win a game by six, today was the day," said Duckie of his St. Mary outfit.
But he remains optimistic after garnering only one point from three games, two of which were home games.
"Well we're not out. This is the playoffs. It is a league of uncertainty," he said.
"The next three games are three wins," Duckie predicted. "If we take our chances we are going to win every game".
Meanwhile in St. Mary, Boys' Town fought hard to carve out a 1-0 win over Los Perfectos at Brooks Park.
Andrew Wheeler scored the all-important goal for the Red Brigade in the 49th minute from about 20 yards out.
The coach of the winning team, Andrew Price, was very happy with the win.
"We needed these three points badly. We came on the road and we had to take it," Price said. The coach of Los P, Bradley Stewart, was upset with his team's performance.
"We missed too many goals so we lost the game," said Stewart.
The game, played in wet conditions, was intense with both teams trading speedy attacks.
