Simpson Miller to raise Harmony Run torch
published: Thursday | June 9, 2005

MINISTER OF Local Government, Community Development and Sports Portia Simpson Miller will today raise the World Harmony Run torch at Jamaica House.

Simpson Miller, representing Prime Minister P.J. Patterson, will take the torch - briefly - from bearers who will carry the symbol of goodwill, racial harmony and international friendship on a 13-mile journey from the Old capital, Spanish Town, to the University of the West Indies Undercroft.

Also participating in the World Harmony Run will be students from the St. Andrew High School for Girls, Australian-born American resident Homagni Bapista and fellow Americans Ketan Tamm and Natabara Rollosson.

The World Harmony Run will cover 25,000 miles in 75 countries around the world.

The Jamaica leg kick-starts the Caribbean zone of the Olympic-style torch relay. After the Jamaica leg, the torch will be in St. Kitts tomorrow and Saturday before the Antigua, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia and U.S. Virgin Island legs later this month.
