Save our exotic plants, fruit trees
published: Saturday | June 11, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Through this medium I would like to make an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Jamaica Agri-cultural Society and the Environmental Division of Government to HELP!

The White Fly infestation has been here for over three years as far as I know. It first attacked the crotons and destroyed them, virtually wiped them out in some areas of the country. Some gardens no longer have those exotic crotons we once admired. Now the bougainvillea are being attacked as well as the water grass, Grove-stake, and other plants.

Fruit trees are also being destroyed. Cherry and lime trees for example, I am told have been destroyed in the Retreat, Dumfries and Lyssons areas of St. Thomas, as well as areas in St. Andrew.

Despite spending much on spraying in cycles, the pest remains. Please act swiftly on this matter before our staples become affected.

I am, etc.,

LUCILLE HIGGINS

PO Box 14, Morant Bay
