Fix the manholes, please!
published: Saturday | June 11, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I am appealing for the third time to the relevant authority responsible for the repairs of manholes on sidewalks, and street sides in Morant Bay, St. Thomas.

For years these manholes have been getting from bad to worse and endangering the safety of the people using these areas. The people most at risk are the blind, elderly, and the young. The situation has become so dangerous because some of these manholes are without covers.

It grieves my heart to see someone rushing to get out of the path of a moving vehicle, to get onto the sidewalks, and almost end up in an open manhole, located in the middle of our parish capital.

I am not sure which of the public agencies is responsible to fix these manholes. If its parish council, or National Works Agency here is a reminder, "Safety Begins With Me", So, I am doing my part by bringing these open manholes to your attention..

I am, etc.,

J.A. BAILEY

Dalvey P.O.,

St. Thomas
