published: Saturday | June 11, 2005

WHILE THE police are awaiting forensic evidence to conclude their investigation into the death of Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) soldier, Private Twain Barnes, an autopsy done by Government pathologist, Dr. Ere Seshaiah, showed that the soldier was shot from behind.

The autopsy, which was done on Thursday, found that the 24-year-old soldier was shot in the upper back, near to the neck. Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, head of the Bureau of Special Investigation (BSI), Acting Assistant Commissioner Granville Gause, said when all the scientific results are in, all the lawmen who were a part of the patrol will be interrogated further.

SCIENTIFIC RESULTS

Private Barnes, was shot and killed in the vicinity of 99 Lane, Mountain View Avenue in St. Andrew, last Wednesday. The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) did not report that he was killed in a shoot-out with gunmen.

According to the report, Private Barnes was a member of a joint police/military patrol in the area when gunshots were heard. He was later discovered with a bullet wound to the neck. He was pronounced dead at the Kingston Public Hospital.
