Portland close in on semis
published: Saturday | June 11, 2005

Leaders Portland could secure their semi-final spot
in the Red Stripe Cricket Championships this weekend with an outright victory against Clarendon at Folly Oval.

However, for that to happen, Portland on 32 points not only need to beat Clarendon, but hope that fourth place St. Thomas (21 points) lose or draw their clash against third place Police (26 points) at Elletson Road.

As usual, Portland will be looking to Godfrey Flemming, Crafton Clarke, Carl Brissett and Garnett Whyte to lead their fight against Clarendon with Sadeek Brown and company.

Westmoreland (29 points) have a very good chance of getting closer to the leaders, this as they should get the better of St. James (seven points) at Allan Rae Oval.

In other matches, Trelawny and former champions Boys' Town meet in a mid-table clash at Bounty Hall, St. Ann should beat bottom of the table Kingston & St. Andrew at Maxfield Park, while Young Jamaica face Hanover at Elgin Town.
