Strays in Sp Town spark call for pound
published: Monday | June 13, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE ST. Catherine Parish Council needs a full-time pound operator to deal with several stray animals which often roam the major thoroughfares causing accidents.

This was revealed during the council's monthly meeting after a motion was moved, and supported by several councillors representing the Portmore Municipal Council for a pound operator to be employed by the St. Catherine Parish Council.

The motion was moved by Councillor Anthony Wint of the Greater Portmore West division. It was passed that a fully operational pound service be made available in St. Catherine.

Spanish Town Mayor Dr. Raymoth Notice endorsed the motion. He said, for too long the council has been 'beating around the bush' and that stray animals have caused enough accidents on the streets and that the time has come for a change.
