Did Paul Bogle die in vain?
published: Thursday | June 16, 2005

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I FEEL sick and powerless when I read that the electricity has been disconnected from the house of the widow in Montego Bay whose husband, the sole breadwinner, was 'accidentally' shot by the police. How can the state allow something like this to happen? What is happening to this poor lady and her family is not just about her but about us as a society.

Do we as a nation remember what Paul Bogle marched to Spanish Town for? If something like this is happening to Mrs. Bacchas, we have not moved one inch forward since 1865. Do we wonder about crime and violence then? When does the state say enough is enough? What is happening to Mrs. Bacchas with the cutting off of her light is worse than a war crime. Shame.

I am, etc.,
