KSAC meeting to decide future of Errol Greene

A SPECIAL meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation's (KSAC) Esta-blishment Committee next Tuesday could result in the replacement of Town Clerk Errol Greene.

A livid Mayor of Kingston, Desmond McKenzie, brought the matter to the council and it was sent to the committee, which has final powers. Mr. McKenzie had stated publicly that his administration was snubbed by the Ministry of Local Government's bid to have Mr. Greene's secondment transferred from the Kingston City Centre Improvement Company (KCCIC), to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA).

"That meeting will take a decision on Mr. Greene's status at the KSAC," McKenzie said Tuesday.

The mayor revealed that he has received information that Mr. Greene, executive director of the KCCIC has filled the post of executive chairman at the NSWMA recently left vacant by the embattled Alston Stewart.

"This is no longer speculation ...the board of KCCIC has approved the transfer of Mr. Greene to the National Solid Waste Management Authority," he said.

A CALL FOR RESIGNATION

The Mayor is maintaining that Mr. Greene must resign. "And if he fails to resign, the establishment (committee) meeting on Tuesday will take a decision on his future," the Mayor added.

Mr. McKenzie stressed that his administration has no problems working alongside Mr. Greene, who he said had a lot to offer to the development of the city.

He, however, argued that the future of the acting town clerk should not remain in an uncertain state, as there are already too many persons acting in major capacities that they are capable of filling.

"We can't tie up a person's future, this is not Hollywood, this is politics at an administrative level. We can't mortgage the future of the KSAC in any acting positions."
