Blood donation saves the lives of patients in need of emergency care

Allows performance of routine surgeries (operations)

Treats bleeding complications in pregnant women

Makes it possible to do elective cardiac (heart) surgery in children

Improves the lives of sickle cell patients

Helps prevent problems for persons with bleeding disorders (haemophiliacs)

Helps save lives of persons with severe burns

IF YOU ARE TO DONATE BLOOD

Have a healthy and balanced meal within three hours of donating blood

Avoid taking any form of medication within 24 hours of donating

Be well rested and wear loosely fitted garments that will facilitate proper blood circulation.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

Blood Donation is safe

There are several steps taken to ensure that the blood you give and the blood others get is healthy

You cannot get HIV and other diseases from giving blood

When you give blood, it will be tested for HIV and other infections

If the blood has any form of disease, it is immediately burned

There is no need to fear needles.

WHERE TO GIVE BLOOD

Persons interested in donating blood should go to the Blood Bank's headquarters, Mondays to Thursdays between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., and on Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. You can also call 922-5181-5.
