DR. RAYMOTH Notice says he will continue his political career, despite last week's courtroom revelation that he physically abused his wife.
The 45-year-old medical practitioner says he believes his wife, Verna, made the right move by reporting the matter to the police, but also believes the domestic issue was blown out of proportion by the media.
"It is unfortunate the issue with my wife came up. I think it was calculated," said Dr. Notice, as he twitched his eyebrow in deep concentration.
The widespread publicity of the incident has impacted negatively on his family. The fomer Holmwood Technical and Meadowbrook High past student has described himself as a "lover and not a fighter."
"What has been said are allegations. I have not been tried, my wife withdrew the whole thing, but the media gave their stories and interpreted things their own way, which paint a picture as if I was terrorist," said Mr. Notice, who has been a medical doctor for more than 16 years.
He claims that the differences with his wife of 12 years have been resolved and that he now has more time to spend with his six kids.
ALTERCATIONS
"My wife and I have had altercations ... she made her statement in anger, and now that is behind us. I have paid for my errors, and we are moving on as a family," he said.
Dr. Notice had four kids from a previous relationship, and two children with Verna, 10-year-old Shakquille, and six-year-old Shaverray (the name is a compilation of syllables from the names of immediate family members).
Notice's eldest son, Tarik, who attends St. Jago High School, has just completed his CXC examinations, and lives with the couple. His other children, all daughters, are overseas. One, the eldest, has just completed her master's in immunology.
Dr. Notice plans to just relax today and enjoy Father's Day with his family.
The former mayor, who started off his professional career as clerical officer at the National Commercial Bank in Cross Roads, St. Andrew, is calling on other politicians who have been accused of serious offences to follow his footsteps and resign.
WORSE SITUATIONS
"I am using this example, so that other Government officials, especially from the PNP, and in fact from both sides, clean out their houses, and don't find themselves in worse situations," said Dr. Notice.
Without being specific, he said there are so many examples, which include past and present Members of Parliament. Some of the cases he said, have been publicised, while others have not been exposed.
Among his achievements as Mayor of Spanish Town are greater accountability and unity at the parish council and the renovation of the Spanish Town market, which was last repaired 15 years ago.
The St. Catherine Parish Council was successful in cleaning up some of the main thoroughfares in the Old Capital, and has developed much partnerships with several overseas embassies.
Dr. Notice said he will continue to assist in whatever way possible, in the development of the Old Capital
