Daraine Luton, Freelance Writer BOYS' TOWN'S coach, Andrew, Price could not have said it better: "... Our destiny is in our own hands."
Yesterday, Boys' Town continued to make good on their quest to qualify for National Premier League by beating Star Cosmos 2-0 at their Collie Smith Drive home. However, unless they beat Los Perfectos at the same venue on Wednesday, the three-time champions will not get back to the big league from which they were relegated in the 1994/95 season.
SEBA FALL
While the Red Brigade were taking care of business at
home, Seba, who have already qualified, dropped their first points of the NPL play-offs, going down 3-0 to Los Perfectos at Brooks Park, Mandeville.
Top marksman Michael Campbell sent Boys' Town ahead in the 33rd minute, nine minutes after Star Cosmos were reduced to 10 men after referee Courtney Campbell gave the marching orders to Damion Mignott for a second bookable offence.
Skipper Fitzroy Anglin sealed the issue midway through the second half with a well-taken penalty.
Meanwhile at Brooks Park, Donavan Peart, Antholove Tulloch and Mark Barrett netted for the Manchester side.
Yesterday's results mean Boys' Town and Los Perfectos are locked on seven points, five behind Seba. A draw will not help Boys' Town on Wednesday as they have a plus-one goal difference to Los Perfectos who have a plus-three tally.
Despite beating Seba, Los Perfectos are not celebrating the win. Not yet, anyway. Their coach, Bradley Stewart, says they will be waiting until Wednesday.
He said his team will be seeking to get the early advantage on Boys' Town when they meet with a view to unsettle the side that beat them 1-0 at Brooks Park.
"We know that we will have to play aggressive and score early," Stewart said.
"Our chances are as good as Boys' Town's. It will come down to who wants it more. Boys' Town are hungry and we are hungy. If the teams come out and play that way then expect a ding-dong battle," Stewart added.
AMMUNITION
But while Stewart expects a fight to the wire with Boys' Town for that final Premier League spot, Price feels he has the ammunition to keep Los Perfectos at bay.
"I definitely think we can beat them again. We beat them at their ground and we are back home at our ground with
our supporters so we should be able to get those three points and we will be going for it," Price said.
Cognisant of the fact that fellow KSAFA side Santos got to this stage twice and failed, Price noted that "there is no tomorrow. We have to get three points to go to the Premier League and that has been our objective this season.
"Our destiny is in our hands," he said.
