Negril mourns Rotarian's murder
published: Wednesday | June 22, 2005

WESTERN BUREAU:

THE RESORT town of Negril, Westmoreland, is now in mourning following the brutal murder of 57-year-old retired banker Gary Ceasar, whose body was found in the West End area on Monday.

Mr. Ceasar, a retired banker, was found with stab wounds to his left breast at Hogg Haven in West End shortly after midday.

Residents who stumbled upon Mr. Ceasar's body alerted the Negril police. He was found lying next to his blue Toyota Rav 4 motor vehicle. The right side of his face was bashed in and his hands bound.

"Mr. Ceasar was a very respected gentleman. As president of the Rotary Club of Negril, he was known for a lot of energy and action in putting together meaningful projects for the community," said Wayne Cummings, president of the Negril Chamber of Commerce, yesterday. "His death is certainly a blow to the entire community of Negril and we hope that the police will do everything in their power to find the perpetrators."

"I am totally shocked ... all I can say is that no human being should die that way," said Theo Chambers, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Lucea. "He contributed a great deal to philanthropic events in Negril and its environs."

Investigators say that Mr. Ceasar was last seen about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday when he left his home in Westland Mountain, Westmoreland, without informing his wife of his intended destination. No motive has been established for the killing.
