TWO 9MM Taurus pistols and five rounds of ammunition were yesterday seized from Jones Town and Admiral Town in south St. Andrew, during a massive joint police-military operation.

The operation, which got under way at dawn yesterday, was conducted by members of the Jamaica Defence Force, the Special Anti-Crime Task Force (SACTF), the Mobile Reserve, the Flying Squad and the Caribbean Search Centre.

One man was arrested and charged in connection with one of the seized pistols. Meanwhile, 33 men from the area were taken into custody, some of whom were on the west Kingston police's most-wanted list. The men were taken to the Mobile Reserve unit to be processed.

Head of the SACTF, Senior Superintendent Donald Pusey told The Gleaner yesterday that the operation was part of an ongoing effort to counteract criminality.

"This is part of a series of operations throughout corporate and rural areas. We locked down Nelson Street yesterday because of some gang warfare going on in the area. We went in and removed several persons who have been terrorising residents. Today, the people of the community should be laughing," he said.
