THEY CAME from all parishes, all districts and divisions. Members of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica flocked to the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel for their association's annual Golden Scale Awards. The awards are presented to three of its members, one for each county, for their yeoman service in the island, especially since they do not get paid for their services.
This year's award winners were Calvin Lyn for Middlesex; Sybil Virgo for Cornwall; and Olive McKenzie for Surrey. Other members received parish award.
President of the association, Carlton Stephens, praised the award winners and went philosophical by saying "If you love the living, give them flowers." He assured the guests that the association was cognisant of the "awesome task and level of responsibility" that was on its members.
So with that, the guests sat back and enjoyed a delicious dinner, while listening to the sweet tones of Harold Davis and Maria Myrie.
