Ting, Bailey in marketing deal

OLYMPIC 4x100 metres gold medallist Aleen Bailey and Pepsi have joined forces to raise funds for two of the sprinter's favourite causes.

A special edition series of labels for the popular Jamaican beverage, Ting, featuring the Olympic gold medallist is about to come off the production line.

Part proceeds from the sale of Ting with the Aleen Bailey labels will go to Addiction Alert and her alma mater, Vere Technical High School. The two causes will earn 25 cents from the sale of each special edition Ting up to a maximum of $465,000.

Commenting on the new project during a tour of the Pepsi plant on Spanish Town Road yesterday, Bailey said: "I am thrilled to be associated with Ting in this project. As a very proud Vere girl I am always looking for ways to assist that wonderful institution because it played such a huge part in who I am today.

"I also chose Addiction Alert as a beneficiary because of the outstanding work they do with young people of this country."

Pepsi's marketing director, John Burrowes, said his company was pleased to be able to do this project with Bailey.

"Aleen Bailey and Ting are a natural partnership since besides the obvious that both have won gold medals in their respective categories, we both enjoy immense popularity among Jamaicans at home and abroad," Burrowes said.

Yesterday's tour of the Pepsi plant for the Olympic gold medallist and members of the media was conducted by Pepsi's general manager, Andrew Reid.

Ting with the special edition Aleen Bailey labels will be available islandwide starting early this month.
