FORMER JAMAICA Under-19 fast bowler Kamal Dennis made hay while the sun shone at Up Park Camp yesterday, bowling Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) into a good position against Melbourne in their Supreme Ventures/Super Cup semi-final.On the rain-shortened opening day's play, Melbourne were struggling at 90-9.
Play got under way at 2:34 p.m. and as soon as his third over, Dennis struck two crucial blows, removing Fitzroy Peter, one, and Young Jamaica opener Yanick Elliott (zero) with successive deliveries. Both batsmen went caught behind.
CHARVIS SPARED
Top scorer Xavier Charvis, who hit three fours in making 27 off 89 balls in almost two hours at the crease, survived Dennis' hat-trick delivery.
Dennis bowled with pace and aggression and in his second spell he reaped further success as he ended the day with figures of 5-22 off 12 overs.
He was well supported by Mark Grey who had claimed 3-28.
Damion Henry, who shared in Melbourne's biggest partnership of 37 with Charvis, got 19 off 44 deliveries. Roman Hutchinson, 15, and Ray Stewart, 10, were the other batsmen to make double figures.
Due to inclement weather, there wasn't any play in the Manchester versus Kingston semi-final at Kirkvine.
