THE EDITOR, Sir:
I AM a Jamaican national living abroad and do not wish to be given the possibility to vote in Jamaica for the following reasons:
1) Sometime ago I voted with my feet when I chose to live abroad.
2) While I read The Gleaner on-line almost daily, I still do not believe I am sufficiently informed to choose.
3) The cost of administering an election all over the world is great and I am sure there is better use for the funds.
4) It seems presumptuous that I should make a choice that others must live with, while being far afield myself.
6) Some countries like the USA have large numbers of people abroad working for their multinational companies or in the military. It seems right that such people should be able to vote but not me.
7) If we Jamaicans abroad feel so moved to participate then we can return home to not only vote but live.
8) To replace a lost Jamaican passport I had to get a British travel document to go to London to apply. If in most of Europe securing a Jamaican passport is such a difficulty, how would we manage the election?
I am, etc.,
