MORE THAN 50 students are set to receive scholarships from Courts Jamaica Ltd., valued at over $2 million through their Junior Management Programme (JUMP), and Manufacturers' Apprenticeship Development Exercise (MADE).

Students will be drawn from various technical high schools and tertiary institutions islandwide, and placed at Courts branches and manufacturing partners such as BOSS Furniture, where they will complete eight weeks of internship.

Participants will receive a monthly stipend as well as tuition for the upcoming school year.

Under these programmes, students are responsible for the successful completion of a project which is marked and graded. This year's focus is 'innovation'. They are expected to come up with novel ideas to improve operations in all areas of operations.

According to Courts public relations executive Natalia Ximinies, the company is committed to the creation of well rounded individuals.

"We move them around in all our departments as our aim is to create a whole individual," she said. "We want to find new ways of doing things within the Courts organisation as our aim is to be the icon of Jamaica."

Hayden Singh, managing director of the furniture giant, in addressing the gathering at the programmes' annual launch, underscored the need to invest in the youth, stating that concerted efforts must be made to protec our human resource through protecting our young minds.
