AS A result of the expected inclement weather associated with Hurricane Dennis, some promoters have postponed their events.

Among them is the 'Island Freestyle - Fashion Silhouettes', scheduled to be held at the Chinese Benevolent Centre, this weekend. According to a release issued by communications officer, Racquel Jones, the event will be postponed due to the impending hurricane.

The 'Hellshire Fish Fry' scheduled for July 8 and the 'Kiddies Treat' slated for July 10 have also been postponed. However, the CVM 'Faces of Summer Search' will be conducted from another location to be announced shortly.

However, at least one promoter in western Jamaica is pressing ahead. Janarey McDonald, organiser of the 'Summer Vibes, Summer Heat Wave - Short Shorts and Skirt Party', to be held at Hotel Commingle, Westmore-land, tonight says he's optimistic about the weather. "We nuh know how the weather stay ... We nuh want the patrons disappointed, cause we nuh know ... It can turn way, a God works, so Friday we'll see," he said. The show features the dynamic Twin of Twins and deejay Spice.

According to a media advisory released by the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), the Festival of the Performing Arts Drama National Finals has been postponed. The Performing Arts Drama National Finals would have seen performances by finalists from parishes such as St. Catherine, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Ann and St. Elizabeth. The release did not identify a new date.

In Kingston, Marshall Redwood, promoter of the 'Jesus Party' scheduled for this evening at the Swallowfield Chapel, says the show must go on. "I'm not expecting the hurricane, because I have prayed. I have to defend my country and those are my few words in Jesus' name," he said. The show will feature the XLNC, Deejay Germs, Juvenile, Echo, Scabby, Rae Rae and Marshy Redz.

Other events scheduled for the weekend are tentative. Ken Nelson, who does 'Who Sey Jamaican Men Cyaan Cook', says "At this point the show is still on, I cannot make a call until Friday". It is slated for the Liguanea Club, New Kingston, and will feature celebrity chefs such as Paul Burke, Cornwall 'Bigga' Ford, Clyde McKenzie and Richard Graham.

Checks with Thelkar Communications, organisers of the 'Bigga/Little Ochi Seafood Carnival', to be held at Little Ochi Seafood Restaurant, Alligator Pond, Manchester, on Sunday conformed that the show is on.
