Driver charged with conspiracy to murder
published: Friday | July 8, 2005

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

EGBERT DRYDEN, a 42-year-old driver of Bog Walk, St. Catherine, has been charged by the Spanish Town police with conspiracy to murder.

Dryden, who was employed as the driver of former Spanish Town Mayor, Dr. Raymoth Notice, is charged in connection with the double murder of 29-year-old Christine Chin and her 48-year-old mother-in-law Elaine Caine, both of High Mountain district in St. Catherine.

Both women were shot dead on June 16 about 7:20 a.m., when gunmen sprayed their house with bullets. Dryden was subsequently taken into police custody where he has remained until he was charged yesterday.

On Wednesday, Inspector Winston Taylor of the Spanish Town Police Station attended the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court and told Resident Magistrate Carol Edwards that murder charges would have been brought against Dryden. Inspector Taylor's appearance in court was in direct response to the RM's query regarding why Dryden, who had been in custody since June 16, had not yet been charged.
