THE ACROPOLIS Gaming Suite in Barbican Centre was abuzz on Wednesday night as the owners and operators gave special guests a little preview of what the place offers. Hot on the heels of the Villagio suite at the Hilton Hotel, Prime Sports, (the suite operators) are hoping that the Acropolis will have the same success.
The decor fits perfectly with the name as there are Greek statues all around the venue and some of the lounge furniture have a Grecian theme. Mix that with all the state-of-the-art, touch-screen game machines, the sounds of the machines, the clink-clink of the tokens as you drop them in the slots and the thumping music, and you have Las Vegas in Jamaica.
Guests wasted no time in flocking to the slot machines. But one of the more attractive games seemed to be Royal Ascot - a horse racing game with mechanical horses actually going around a small track. Apart from the games (and there are many), the Acropolis also boasts Ambrosia restaurant for your dining pleasure.
The tills were ringing from persons hitting the jackpot but, alas, this was just a sneak peak so no real money was used or made that night.
Among the guests were French Ambassador Francis Hurtut; Michelle Myers-Mayne; Dwight Moore; Ian and Celia Levy; Millicent Lynch; Brian George; Anne-Marie Feanny; Capt. David McRae; Marilyn Bennett; Capt. Michael and wife Thalia Lyn; Don and Ayesha Creary, Daryl Vaz and hosts of others.
