KINGSTON and St. Andrew was buzzing with activity last weekend; from games of chance to weddings and fourth of July celebration, the social calendar was full.
Our first stop was at the newly-opened Acropolis Gaming Suites in Barbican where only model Nadine Willis seemed to have any luck. It might have been raining outside but the spirits were high inside and the staff was super courteous, attentive and helpful.
Then on Saturday afternoon, music and flowers made perfect harmony with the nuptials of Virginia Shoucair of Record Plaza and Lennox Crooks of Best Buds. (See full story on page ).
And later that night, Kerriane Creary, granddaughter of Mrs. Norma Creary, was showered with love and congratulations by siblings, family and friends who came out to wish her all the best as she heads off to college in Florida, where she resides.
On Sunday, after thanking God for two successful years as Mayor of Kingston and St. Andrew, Mayor Desmond McKenzie and his wife Marcia were joined by councillors, party faithful and friends at a brunch at the Cable and Wireless Sports Club in Kingston.
HIGH SPIRITS
The mayor was in high spirits as he took the microphone to sing a couple stanzas with Keith Lyn and he thanked his magnificent team of councillors and all who had helped to make the council achieve its goals.
Meanwhile, Manpower and Maintenance Services lady boss Audrey Hinchcliffe, held her annual fourth of July dinner for friends and family who are returned American citizens. The food was good, fellowship rich and atmosphere relaxing. I am still convinced that beneath her business-like persona, Post Master General Blossom O'Mealy-Nelson is a frustrated comedienne. And at the Sir. Phillp Sherlock Centre on the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies, the curtain came down on yet another successful season for the University singers. These 36 young people gave a magnificent performance and were perfectly costumed, right down to the jewellery!
And while businessman Aubyn Hill celebrated his birthday at home with family and friends from near and far, author/columnist Hartly Neita, had a special evening of readings from his new book that chronicles the life of late Prime Minister Hugh Shearer at the Cherry Gardens residence of Buddy Pouyatt.
